Awards & NominationsPCACAC presents several different types of awards to individuals within the college admission counseling profession. Apperson AwardThe Richard L. Apperson Award, named in honor of PCACAC's first president, is the association's highest honor presented to a PCACAC member. It is awarded annually to a member whose career embodies the ideals of the association - providing extraordinary service to students, to PCACAC and to the college counseling profession. Blackburn AwardThe John A. "Jack" Blackburn Award for Ethics in College Admission is presented to an individual who demonstrates commitment to the high ethical standards of college admissions through sustained involvement in the profession and who is dedicated to promoting equal access to higher education for all students. This award is presented annually if there is a qualified candidate. Membership in PCACAC is not a criterion for selection but consideration will be given to professionals in the PCACAC region. Marion Flagg Scholarship ProgramThe Marion R. Flagg Scholarship Award is given annually to a group of exceptional education professionals who are not currently members of PCACAC and have not attended a PCACAC Conference. These professionals are generally high school counselors, two- or four-year college admission professionals, independent counselors or persons who work in such outreach programs as “I Have a Dream” and “Upward Bound.” The scholarship is named in honor of Marion R. Flagg, one of the organization's outstanding members and a tireless advocate for underrepresented students. Student Support GrantThe Student Support Grant (SSG)was established to help underwrite worthwhile initiatives that directly benefit students in the college transition process. When available, PCACAC members may apply by early March each year for a Student Support Grant to help fund their own student projects. They may also wish to nominate a community member whose volunteer work nurtures college readiness. Successful SSG applicants will propose events directly benefiting students, such as trips to college campuses, money for student college counseling or financial aid workshops, and college programs to host prospective student groups.
